Screen saver fails to start

Howdy, all!

I'm running Fedora 40 with Xfce 4.18, specifically
xfce4-screensaver-4.18.3-1.fc40.x86_64. I configure the screensaver to
use one of the xscreensaver-provided screen savers
(xscreensaver-gl-extras-6.09-1.fc40.x86_64).

If I manually lock the screen, it works just fine. But if I walk away
from my computer, after the timeout I've defined, the screensaver is not
activated. I am not even really sure where to look for log entries
regarding the screensaver.

It feels like when I first log in, the screensaver works. But once I
have a few apps running, the screensaver stops kicking in. I have tried
enabling and disabling "inhibit screensaver for fullscreen apps" - no
difference.

Screen shots of how my screen saver is configured below.

Lock screen config: https://imgur.com/1gVJ3kt
Power management config: https://imgur.com/H6tIu1A (I have power
management turned off, I like the screensaver being visible).

Any recommendations on how to chase this down?
