making configuration read-only?

I administrate some PCs for people with very few computer knowledge.
These PCs run Mint 21 with Xfce 4.16).

The problem is that my users sometimes unintentional change their Xfce
configuration and then they do not know how to make it undo.
For example, one of my users has deleted the workspace switcher from his
panel. I have to reinstall it.

Is it possible to change the owner of the configuration files, so my users
cannot manipulate anymore their settings?

For which files/directories shall I do a "chown root:root"?
