Xfce4-4.16 very slow to start

Jan,

All I see is a blank screen.

A bit more investigation tells me it's a Slackware issue. When root runs
startx it comes up very quickly. It's when I, a user, run startx that it
takes about a minute. And, when I try to logout nothing happens; I need to
use ctrl-alt-backspace to shut down the X Window system.

I'll take this issue to the slackware forum on linuxquestions.
