Thank you.   work around  does provide a  remedy  to avoid  losing 
files, work   ,etc ...


FYI for XFCE  maintainers:

I tested two live distros of the OS in use in this context, which is
CentOS, w/   gnome & kde and neither  exhibited the issue.
