Most of the times, when I experienced issues when using the mouse,
replacing the mouse solved the issue.

I'm using relatively flat cable mice, very cheap mice from the
supermarket, because they are much more ergonomic than all those new
expensive and cheap wireless mice. The drawback are usually the
switches, sometimes I turn on the soldering iron and replace the left
or right button with the wheel button, since I'm not using the wheel
button. Note, in Germany we've got closing time for supermarkets during
the working week and at the weekend they are closed as well, so it's
not always possible to buy a new mouse immediately, let alone that
sometimes it's hard to get an old design ergonomic mouse at all, since
even a lot of wired mice nowadays are non-ergonomically hulks.

The long and the short of it, even an expensive mouse ages and not only
the switches could get borked, so at least for testing purpose using a
new mouse is a good step regarding troubleshooting.
