Remove tab close buttons from xfce4-terminal

Though this thread was 9 years ago... I'm still hassled by this problem: I
often switch to a tab by mouse, and the cursor stays on that tab, then later
I use middle-click to paste in the command line.. the tab is closed.

Is it possible to get a warning? Or any "better practice"? Thanks.
