Disabling screen compositing did do the trick. Xfce has been running now
for a few days without blanking the screen. The only thing I've been
using from compositing, is transparency for move and resize (but it's
not very important for me). AFAICS Compton doesn't do that, so
installing Compton will probably not do me much good.
