Strange behaviour of Ctrl+Fx

Hi,
I have got a vertical toolbar 1 which shows 8 desktops. When I move the 
cursor over them I the tool tips show:
desktop 1 desktop 2
desktop 3 desktop 4
desktop 5 desktop 6
desktop 7 desktop 8.
When I want to switch desktops with x the results are asl follows:
Ctrl+F1 Ctrl+F5
Ctrl+F2 Ctrl+F6
Ctrl+F3 Ctrl+F7
Ctrl+F4 Ctrl+F8
Why?
