Editing Xfce menus

Is there any way to get a menu with an editable list of chosen programs
when I left-click on the desktop, as that isn't mapped to anything? Or
alternatively, editing the middle-click or right-click menus (the
"main" Xfce menu itself, not the "Applications" menu)?
I guess I could add a submenu to the "Applications" menu, but that would
be just as cumbersome to use as to simply go to the menu item itself.
This is for 4.12 on Xubuntu 15.04, but I would prefer a solution that
would be fairly distribution-agnostic as I also use Debian Jessie and
Arch. Bonus points if I can also bind it to a keyboard shortcut and
traverse it with the arrow keys :)
