Xfce is very, very, very slow

That's more than just a shot in the dark ;). I like strace, but I have
got serious doubts that strace on say gedit, regarding to possible DBUS
issues would enlighten us. Hartmut's ~/.xsession-errors is clean.
Usually DBUS issues does cause several warnings in ~/.xsession-errors.

I wrote off-list in German with Hartmus, currently deleting .cache
_seems_ to solve the issue, however, this for sure won't solve the issue
forever, but might be useful for troubleshooting.

My guess too is, that it's related to some GTK (GNOME) stuff, assumed it
isn't a hardware issue, unfortunately Xfce is based on GTK too ;).

It makes me wonder that Hartmut can't see anything when running top.

IMO the best way to continue troubleshooting is to add a new user and to
run Xfce by this "clean" account.
