Problem with xfce start -

I have a problem with xfce coming up in console-2 instead of console-1
as it should. When I CTRL ALT F-1 I see a screen full of errors, a few
lines of which I have manually copied in the hope that they may help
define whatever the problem is:

(xfce4-session:1015): xfce4-session-WARNING **: Failed to set up ICE
authentication data, session management may not work properly.

E: [pulseaudio] main.C: Daemon startup failed.

(xfce4-session:1015): xfce4-session-WARNING **: ICE connection 0x13b9820
rejected

(xfce4-session:1031): xfce4-session-WARNING **:
(gerror.c:390):g_error_new_valst: runtime check failed: (domain

!=0)

Failed to connect to session manager: Failed to connect to session
manager: Authorization Rejected, reason : None of the authentications
protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

Another symptom is that when I "su" to root in a terminal it takes about
30 seconds to react to my password. When I start xfce the little
rotating progress circle is smaller than normal and spins for about
thirty seconds before becoming normal size for a few seconds before the
desktop appears. I have never had this problem with xfce, this is a new
install of Fedora 20 64 bit that I have been configuring. It also boots
Centos 6.5 set up with XFCE too.

It's beginning to look like the best way to fix things is to start over,
redo the new install ...

Any suggestions that might avoid that will be appreciated.

Bob
