Upgraded from xubuntu 12.04 to xubuntu 12.10 and my panel has been disorganised

I just upgraded my system from xubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 and my panel has
been messed up.

I used to have the menu and launchers at the LH and everything else
(notification area, workspace switcher, date, action buttons) at the RH
end.

Everything is now 'stacked up' starting at the LH end.  How do I get it
back the way it was?  ... and why did it change?
