Xfce Default Configuration

As a very long time user of Xfce, I am trying to figure out how a new
user would ever download and install Xfce not in a distribution
already? If it is in a distribution, why didn't they "pretty" it up? If
you are capable of downloading and installing Xfce without a
distribution, you probably do not care what it looks like, since you
will make it look and act your way anyway.
