I don't know about RHEL6, but in Debian, as soon as some .desktop/etc
item is added... Debian automagically runs and "update-menus" kind of
thing.
/usr/bin/update-menus
This is provided by the package "menu"...
http://packages.debian.org/sid/menu
I'm unsure of which package(s) provide this functionality for RHEL6.
