Process of mounting removable / encrypted media?

Hi,

when I plug in a removable block device such as USB storage, the XFCE
desktop will automatically mount it. If it is encrypted with cryptsetup,
a requester is raised to ask for the password.

What part of XFCE is performing that task, including the configuration
of cryptsetup/device-manager for encryption? Where would I find the
sources and a description of the logical steps? Is that done by XFCE
itself or an external program?
