xfce4 settings, xfrun4 shortcut failure

Searched the web to find others experienced a problem with xfrun4
shortcut not working (http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=4025).

Then tried 'xfce4settingshelper' as suggested but received the
following command terminal response:

xfce4-settings-helper

(xfce4-settings-helper:5397): xfce4-settings-helper-WARNING **: Failed
to connect to session manager

How to solve?
