ICE IO error?

No, you script *doesn't* do anything directly with the file... but the
programs called:
gnome-terminal, vim, bash

All do interact with it. If might be the way you are actually using the
file.

You might want to think about not using that work around and just open a
gnome-terminal session first and create an alias to do your function.

Just a thought.
