I've already spent some time to find the source for those icons on the
net but have been unsuccessful. It seems they have been used by the
plugin from the beginning, but there is no license information in the
git tree, and there never has been.

So I have no answer, but perhaps the former devs (that's why this mail
will additionally be sent to all people listed in AUTHORS) can shed a
light on this? Where does the "liquid" theme originate from
(weather.com)? And more important, what are its terms and conditions of
usage?

With no answers to these questions, I see no other solution than to look
for an alternative icon set which is free and conforms to the GPL. There
are a lot of free weather icons out there, but I'd like to avoid
replacing it, because users got accustomed to it. There have been no
complaints about it so far, though it surely has its drawbacks (e.g.
dark panels).
