video in xubuntu/xfce

I'm just guessing a bit here, but I did a quick grep through my home 
folder looking for HDMI1 and turned up the following file:

~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/displays.xml

Looks like perhaps tweaking the "active" flags in that file might fix 
this.  But again, I'm just guessing - never tried this.
