Commandline checking for window in focus

Hello list,

I try coding bash scripts to reensemble KDE’s common searchcommands.
(e.g. ALT-F2 and "gg: <SEARCHPHRASE>" to open the standard
browser on google with the specified searchphrase.)

That’s possible in XFCE as well.

But is there a (cmdline) possibility to check if a Firefox instance is currently on
focus or not?
That could help to determine if a new FF-instance is about to be loaded
or if a new tab to the currently displayed FF-instance should be added…

Maybe some dbus-stuff‽
