Can I disable glide pad laptop mouse?

I have a nastier issue where touching the pad grabs focus and never
releases, which automatically implies the need to reboot (I guess the
guys at HP messed up their design by a couple of millimetres). I tried
the
xinput set-prop 15 "Device Enabled" 0
suggested above, and the only issue with that is that after a
suspend/resume cycle the pad gets re-enabled anyway.
I'm pretty sure that the pad can be disabled by removing some module
from the kernel, but I couldn't find any guidance on this. Ideas?
