Hmmm, it *might* be connected. I have just 'clean installed' this
xubuntu 11.10 system and initially I had problems with both apache2 and
leafnode complaining that they couldn't get an FQDN for the system.
There is a separate server which provides local DNS (using dnsmasq) and
I found I had to *remove* the 127.0.1.1 entry for the system from
/etc/hosts leaving just:-
127.0.0.1 localhost
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
Both apache2 and leafnode are now happy and 'hostname -f' returns the
correct FQDN for the system so, if xfce *is* unhappy, then I think it
has a problem!
The screensaver settings app seems fine now so I think I'll put it down
to gremlins and forget about it for the moment.
