i understand that thunar uses tumbler to manage thumbnails, and
tumbler is capable of generating thumbnails for some specific file
formats. however, we used to be able to extend the thumbnailer's
capability easily by creating a simple desktop file and a working
script to generate the png file. and tumbler do not recognize these
thumbnailers, at least now.
