KDE[sic!] Sounds Config File

Hello!

Yes, this is a bit off-topic, but maybe some of you have the same problem I 
have:

I am using some KDE applications (eg. KMail at this very moment) and whenever 
a programme generates a pop-up window a terrible sound is being played. I do 
not like those sounds. In fact, I do not like alert sounds at all. Where can I 
switch them off?

Sure, I could install the rest of KDE and try the Control Centre, but there 
must be a config file somewhere, right?
