Background doesn't show jpg's

Hello all.

Just installed Slackware-current on my laptop, and strangely enough, it
doesn't accept any jpegs as background. Pngs do work...

I checked if libjpeg was installed, checked if xfdesktop & co linked with
an existing libjpeg library.

Xfce Desktop does open the image, and makes the thumbnail (for the
Desktop Settings dialog), just doesn't show it on the background.

Suggestions?
John
