something strange about xfce4 terminal(0.4.4)

I just noticed this starting to happen to me yesterday, after a bunch of
system updates (using gentoo here, also).  I suspect it might have
something to do with upgrading to vte 0.24.0; unfortunately I can't
downgrade because vte 0.22.5 specifies GTK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED, and I'm
using gtk 2.20.0, which has things like GTK_WIDGET_REALIZED()
deprecated.  (I suppose I could hack vte's build system to get it to
work, but... busy.)

Interestingly, if I type something and then move the (invisible) cursor
back over letters I've typed, the letters change color slightly (though
there still isn't an actual cursor).  So *something* is happening with
the cursor, at least.

I'm running current git master of Terminal.  Don't really have time to
look into it, unfortunately.
