0.6.6 does seem to be fixed here.  

Joost, I'll try to get a build done and pushed today, and Ali, I'll
also queue this up for the -current tree soon.

Ali, I don't have the build logs handy, but the 0.8svn failed here with
hal-0.5.12 installed; I didn't have time to look into it further when
it happened (I was trying to figure out Joost's bug), but you might
have a look if you get a chance.
