need to run a shutdown script

So why do they provide a GUI startup?  OK, one *could* start them
before the GUI starts but the normal way, even from the command line,
will be from 'inside' X and you'll get the problems outlined above.

Once X has started how else would one start a new/multiple virtual
machines?
