What version of Xfce are you running?  4.4.x will likely take a very 
long time to start if you have many apps in your session -- it starts 
apps in order, waiting for each one to start up before moving on to the 
next.  The Xfce 4.6.x beta does it in parallel, and should be a lot faster.
