Yes, for Thunar 1.2 I am planning to replace thunar-vfs with GIO/Gvfs.
Xfce 4.6 will include Thunar 1.0, so unfortunately you'll have to wait
for a couple of months. Xubuntu 9.04 may ship a patch for samba
browsing but other than that the only way to browse your network is to
use FUSE manually.
