Thank you Brian for the feedback.
In my case, it wasn't about being "complete" but only one generic icon was
being used for everything.
So I tested some more. One user worked fine (running in Xnest) but other
didn't.
I ktraced xfdesktop for both.
The one that had one generic icon for all used
/usr/pkg/share/icons/hicolor/index.theme and other
/usr/pkg/share/icons/hicolor/ files.
The one that did work (different icons) used /usr/pkg/share/icons/Rodent/
files.
So in the desktop that didn't work. I went to Xfce Settings Manager, chose
User Interface Preferences and changed the Icon Theme from "hicolor" to
"Rodent" and all the icons worked. I also tried "GNOME" and those icons
worked too.
So Rodent index.theme and many images are from xfce4-icon-theme-4.4.2
My hicolor index.theme is from hicolor-icon-theme-0.10nb1 and the icons
are from libxfce4gui-4.4.2
I wonder if this was packaged wrong. Or if somehow my
/usr/pkg/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache is wrong. Or related to
gtk-update-icon-cache. I just don't know.
At least my icons look nice now (using Rodent theme). It would be nice to
get hicolor to work fine. If anyone has ideas on how to troubleshoot this
please let me know so I can get the pkgsrc packages fixed.
(Thanks for the other information too. I need to look at the fam/gamin and
dbus setup later.)
