xfce-4.4.2 menu

Hi,

I've compiled and installed xfce-4.4.2 (core components only)

xfce4-dev-tools-4.4.2
libxfce4util-4.4.2
libxfcegui4-4.4.2
libxfce4mcs-4.4.2
xfce-mcs-manager-4.4.2
xfce-mcs-plugins-4.4.2
xfce4-panel-4.4.2
xfce4-session-4.4.2
xfwm4-4.4.2
xfdesktop-4.4.2
xfce-utils-4.4.2
gtk-xfce-engine-2
xfce4-appfinder

and it seems to be working fine except for one thing. The menu does not come
up when I click on the menu icon (the icon disappears instead) in the panel
or when I right click on the desktop background (no response). Middle
clicking brings up the window list as expected.

The problem can be traced to this error message:

** (xfce4-menu-plugin:2455): CRITICAL **: XfceDesktopMenu init failed (The
XfceDesktopMenu module could not be loaded:
/usr/lib/xfce4/modules/xfce4_desktop_menu.so: undefined symbol:
desktop_menuspec_path_free)

I did a search on this undefined symbol and could only find this thread
describing the same problem:

http://www.archivum.info/xfce@xfce.org/2008-03/msg00011.html

Unfortunately, there was no real solution in the thread. I tried running
'ldd -r -v' on the .so file as suggested in the thread to see if there were
any other unresolved symbols but there were none.

The symbol desktop_menuspec_path_free is defined in the file
modules/menu/desktop-menuspec.c in the xfdesktop-4.4.2 package so I don't
know why it says it's undefined.

Does anyone have any ideas how I might go about fixing it? Thanks for any
help.

Toni
