An Issue With nm-applet On Xubuntu-7.10

I had a similar problem to this with the same problem.
To fix it, I killed all instances of nm-applet and then opened the file 
~/.cache/sessions/xfce4-session-* (there should only be one that matches 
in there), and found the _sets_ of lines that had 
Client*_Program=nm-applet and removed them, saving the file and logging 
out and back in again.

That removes nm-applet completely from being autostarted, and you can 
run it once to get a single instance running.
