thunar thumbnails stopped working

No problems up to now with video thumbnails in Thunar, but just in the last
couple of days they've apparently stopped working and I would like to try to
find out why.

Only thing I can think of is that I've installed a bunch of libraries that were
required to build Rhythmbox source 0.10. Nothing was upgraded or removed, just
development libraries. Is it possible I installed something that has caused a
conflict?

I don't even know where to begin to look for a way to diagnose this, any tips
appreciated.
