I've had Xfce-4.4.0 installed since January 28 and have never had this
problem. I note the date since it precedes the backported patch which I
wouldn't have on my system.
Clicking a link opens a new Firefox tab (Firefox is always running on my
box) and I get a flashing icon in my icon box on the panel. The
flashing icon response occurs whether Firefox is on the current desktop
or not.
Looks like the bug reporter is using a Gentoo. I have a partition with
Gentoo installed but rarely used anymore. If it would be helpful, I
could probably be convinced to install Xfce-4.4.0 to see whether I get
the same behavior.
