I've had Xfce-4.4.0 installed since January 28 and have never had this 
problem.  I note the date since it precedes the backported patch which I 
wouldn't have on my system.

Clicking a link opens a new Firefox tab (Firefox is always running on my 
box) and I get a flashing icon in my icon box on the panel.  The 
flashing icon response occurs whether Firefox is on the current desktop 
or not.

Looks like the bug reporter is using a Gentoo.  I have a partition with 
Gentoo installed but rarely used anymore.  If it would be helpful, I 
could probably be convinced to install Xfce-4.4.0 to see whether I get 
the same behavior.
