Deskbar applet and default browser

Hi all!

I am using XfApplet as a way how to have gnome deskbar applet in my
xfce panel. My problem is, that deskbar applet uses Firefox as a
default browser, but I want it to use Epiphany. I set Epiphany as a
default browser using "Prefered applications" dialog from Xfce -
System menu, but it did not work, it used Firefox.

Then I tried this tiny how-to:

Unfortunately, still without success.

Has anyone an idea, how to make deskbar applet use Epiphany as a
default browser?
