I've seen similar odd errors with people that have attempted to
install using the automated installer and then later used my
Xfce package for Slackware 11.0. They end up with a partial
installation in /usr/local, and then my Xfce package goes to /usr,
and the "stale" libraries and such get confused (as expected).

That being said, I wonder if the OP uninstalled 4.4.0 prior to
installing 4.4.1 with the installer. If not, then something very
similar is likely what's happening here.
