Setting custom icon for panel plugin in xfce4-mcs-manager does not work

I restarted it via xfrun4. (I wouldn’t know how to restart xfdesktop4 in another
way; if I started it in a terminal, it would obviously just terminate if I
closed the terminal.)
This lead me to the following: I launched a terminal, went to ~, launched
xfrun4, killed xfdesktop4 and started it through this and now everything
launches from ~ again. But if I kill it again now and start it via [Alt]+[F2],
the default directory is ~/.icons/Tango-Black-Materia again … Really odd.
