Multiple Instances of nm-applet

Greetings.

This appears to be a problem that people have faced in the past but I
was unable to find a conclusive solution to this one.

Basically, I use xfce 4.4 as my primary desktop. Have never had any real
problem - its slick! I always keep an instance of nm-applet running in
my gnome session startup and I've instructed xfce to launch gnome
services.

Occasionally, I tinker with e17. As an experiment killed xfwm4 and
xfdesktop, put in a one liner shell script in ~/Desktop/Autoconfig to
launch enlightenment and logged out with a request to save the session.
Logged in again, played around a bit, got bored and decided to get my
original settings back again. So killed enlightenment, restarted xfwm4
and xfdesktop and suddenly there were six instances of nm-applet
running.

I've not been able to get this solved and was wondering if anyone had
some pointers ?

Cheers and thanks,
Robin
