Activating plugin with keyboard shortcut

I'd like to use some plugins by just pressing a keyboard shortcut.
Let's make me an example: I'm using very often the dict-plugin. But I'm
annoyed while e.g. writing e-Mails moving my hand to my mouse to look
up a little word. I'd wish to have a shortcut to point my cursor into
the textbox to type my word I'd like to translate. Is there any chance
for doing it?

Regards and Merry X-mas,
