Panel layer

Hi all,
i know the option for changing the panel layer is gone in recent versions.
But is there a way to make the panel the same layer as all normal windows ?

I am using compiz and the shadow of the panel is above all normal
windows. Doesn't look right, and I do now want to disable the shadow
(doesn't look right either).

I am on gentoo with xfce4-session-4.4.1 and xfce4-panel-4.4.1.
