xfce4-panel & memory cunsumption

why does xfce4-panel consume so much memory?

I have one panel, a few icons, a menu plugin, pager, systray, clock and 
taskbar, and the panel consumes 15 MB's of RAM, and after a few clicks 
on the menu, it climbes up to 30.

fbpanel on the other hand takes about 2 megs, kicker about 5 etc etc.

I'm running rc1 and have compiled it with "O3 -s", meaning no debuging 
symbols take up memory
