Encoding issue with xfdesktop

Guess you're right about this. I set my environment variables from fr_FR 
to de_DE... and all of a sudden, everything displays correctly.

The question is: how could I possibly "repair" the broken fr.po file? It 
displays OK in Vim as well as POEdit.
