System menu missing

Someone else asked about this recently and was able to alter a property:

That property does not even exist in the corresponding file in my 
system. How do I express it?

I have tried importing menu files from /etc/xdg/menus but still nothing 
appears.

BTW, I really like Xfce but I can do without the mice.  We kill them in 
these parts.  They are considered dirty pests.
