xfdesktop crashin with glibc error

OK,

Didn't have debug turned on.

Tried to run the 4.4rc2 installer, this time with optimisations off and
debug on but it fails with

An strace is most likely useless.  See [1] for gdb instructions.  (Also
if anything about the instructions are unclear to you, please let me
know, as I'd like to make the document as user-friendly as possible).
