newbie - menu disappears

It happens to me too with Xubuntu dapper. I use to solve in this way:
mv $HOME/.config $HOME/.config.bk

or:

mv $HOME/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml 
$HOME/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml.bk


...anyway, I'm looking for someone who suggest me how to solve the panel 
disappeared:
I use to repair from  Settings manager-->Panel, but now the button is  
completely  blocked .

Launching "xfce4-panel" the panels  back, but loosing a lot of plugins 
(menù, mount device, volume, sreenshot...)
