Setting background image with Desktop Manager fails

:-)

As perhaps the name of the app should indicate, it's the application
that manages your desktop - it makes the desktop menus appear when you
click on the root window, and creates the backdrop. The Desktop
Settings applet configures this application. Since the app wasn't
running, this of course did no good
