Actually, it can be easily improved. You can download a version that
works with xpdf here :

In fact, it's even more evil than that... The slider and quit button are
always present, but xpdf request a size larger than the actual screen so
that they aren't seen by the user.
The snapshot mentionned above also takes this into account.
