Actually, I've found that it depends on the font configuration, which I
have barely begun to figure out.  On my Ubuntu system, the misc-fixed
fonts are not available unless I ran some command that allowed my to
turn on fixed-width font support, but then that hosed the fonts in
firefox, which are nicely anti-aliased.  So I reverted back.

I finally found that the Terminus font is close enough to the 8x13
fixed font that I like so much, so I'm happy.  On Ubuntu, they're in
the xfonts-terminus package.
