OT: Why planet gnome doesn't tell all the truth? ... strikes back.

	Hello:

Sorry for annoying again with this topic, but I've some more
testing in a more "uniform" environtment. That is, I performed again
the same tests, but in a FreeBSD system which has been completely
compiled from source (ala Gentoo) using the same CFLAGS-family options.
It allows to compare performances between source codes compiled using
the (approximately) same compiler options. This time I added Terminal
to the terminals.

Gnome v2.12, KDE v3.5, and XFCE v4.2.3.2.

rxvt v2.6.4, xterm 206, gnome-terminal v2.12.0, konsole v1.6 and
Terminal 0.2.4 (libexo 0.3.0).

This time, given a terminal, execution times of different
desktop environtments are very similar. Hence, no advantage for
XFCE ... :-(

Again, rxvt is by far the fastest terminal and xterm the
slower. Konsole is faster than gterm, and Terminal wins
them! :-)

Curious: gterm is slightly faster in KDE than in GNOME !

Hence, in a second round, konsole wins again gnome-terminal
(opposed to what gnome guys claim).

Some fo you tell that user never executes a stupid "time
cat /usr/share/dict/words" command. You are right, but this reasoning
invalidates any benchmark you perform on a computer, since you never
executes 'stupid' benchmarks on a computer as a usual task. Benchmarks
are benchmarks. If they are not stupid because they are not benchmarks.

cheers

Xavier
